Construction Industry: Regulatory Sandbox for Sustainable Construction and Renovation

Energy, mobility, FinTech, agriculture or even LegalTech – one can already speak of traditional areas of application of the Regulatory Sandbox concept. Within a few years, the innovation policy instrument has been implemented in various fields and on all continents. But what about regulatory sandboxes in the construction industry?

winnovation is currently working on the Green SandboxBuilder. In the project on behalf of the Austrian Ministry for Climate Action we analyze where there is a need for regulatory sandboxes for ecologically sustainable and climate-effective projects in the construction sector in Austria. Together with an interdisciplinary consortium of national partners we use open innovation methods like interviews, co-creation workshops and crowdsourcing with experts and users. The aim is not only finding theoretical areas for application for regulatory sandboxes, but also to develop concrete proposals for regulatory sandboxes in the field of sustainable construction.
